Many think that it is not possible to really know when a wine’s peak moment is...
They claim that it changes from year to year, vineyard, to vineyard, producer to producer, and according to countless other variables.
The following longevity spans - derived from Aldo Sohm’s “Wine Simple” book - offer a pretty wide yet generally accepted range, although as you’ll notice, the longevity of Pinot Noir offers the only mention of Oregon, and the brackets of its span are still undetermined.
The Oregon Wine Longevity Project seeks to address this gap by building an open-sourced database that identifies those variables impacting the longevity of Oregon wine through the disciplined provenance and testing - both quantitatively and qualitatively - of an expansive number of Longevity Wines over the next fifty years.

We work with amazing winery partners throughout the great state of Oregon to amass and store a representative sample of Oregon wine for quinquennial testing.

Convening the most venerable palates, our Advisory Taste Panel qualitative tests all Longevity Wines while each is also subjected to quantitative testing.
|
While the data we collect on the specifics of each Longevity Wine's crafting and its aging are always available, 50 years will mark the aggregation of a complete data set.

There are a number of ways to get involved with the Project, depending on who you are:
